The effect of nitrate-rich beetroot juice supplementation on blood pressure and exercise capacity 2 October 2019
Presented by Dr Stephen Bailey, Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Nutrition, Loughborough University. This lecture will summarise the effects of short term dietary nitrate supplementation on cardiovascular health, particularly blood pressure, muscle function and exercise capacity/performance. The effects will be discussed in healthy adults as well as adults with cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and heart failure.

PhD student Matthew Roberts will commence the lecture with an overview of ethnic differences in cardiovascular health, followed by a more detailed examination of his research into the influence of exercise on cardiovascular health in South Asian and European women and centrally obese South Asian and European men.
Leicester woman overhauls health ahead of 70th birthday
A woman from Leicester who feels “on top of the world” following her own personal health drive is sharing her story to mark Diabetes Week. Jashoda Patel was inspired to change her lifestyle by a city-wide campaign to raise awareness of and prevent type 2 diabetes. Soon to be 70, she has been taking part in a diet and exercise programme called Healthy Goals, which is part of the Leicester Changing Diabetes programme. Read More
