Cardiovascular Genetics and Biomarkers
The Genetics and Biomarkers strand of our research looks at how we may inherit or have higher risks of developing heart conditions.
The main objectives of the Genetics and Biomarkers strand are:
- To translate our recent and on-going discoveries on the genetic basis of coronary artery disease and related conditions towards improved understanding, prevention, prediction and treatment of these common vascular diseases.
- To extend the genomic discovery platform to other cardiovascular diseases and clinical scenarios.
- To use our expertise in biomarker discovery (molecules or genes whose presence can identify a disease or assess its progress) to develop new blood tests for common cardiovascular conditions such as heart failure, coronary and valvular heart disease, and heart rhythm disturbances, and work with industry to develop these tests for clinical use.
