Plant Your Health
Principal Investigator: Dr Thomas Yates
Type 2 diabetes is a serious chronic disease where the body can no longer control blood sugar levels. It also increases the risk of many other diseases, such as heart problems.
Plant based diets that limit the amount of animal foods are thought to be an effective way of improving health and may help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in high risk populations, or help manage type 2 diabetes in those diagnosed with the disease. outcomes.
The Plant Your Health study aims to investigate the effects of a plant-based vegan diet on markers of health in people who are at a high risk of type 2 diabetes, or who already have type 2 diabetes but are not currently on any medication for it. It will be conducted by a Registered Dietician.
Participants in the study will be required to follow an individualised vegan meal plan for 8 weeks and have regular contact with the research team to monitor common health markers, such as blood glucose levels and waist circumference.
This study is now closed for recruitment.
